BIOGRAPHY

Michelle Ann

Michelle Ann is a classically trained singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist.

Her Instruments include vocals, piano, clarinet, guitar, ukulele, and percussion. While attending high school, Michelle played the clarinet in the top band, the Wind Ensemble, all four years. After her electives opened up her sophomore year, she joined choirs, guitar ensemble and performed in the school musicals and other variety shows. Present-day, she has an interest in learning the lap steel guitar—so you can see craving to expand her repertoire of anything music is in her bones!

Michelle is a veteran performer in the Northern Virginia, DC area. Michelle has performed as a solo artist and has performed with numerous bands in the area. She spent 8 years as a lead vocalist and keyboardist in a contemporary Christian band, “Upon This Rock,” performing at festivals, concerts, mission groups throughout the mid-Atlantic and served as the house worship band at a local church. This experience challenged Michelle to explore many different singing styles, helping her develop as a vocalist. She also has been the lead vocalist in multiple pop/rock cover bands in the area. Michelle could be seen at many local music venues. She was awarded on Weddingwire.com for being a 5-star rated wedding vocalist and she has performed at ceremonies for more than a decade. She has performed as a soloist and also as a duo, sometimes accompanied by her husband or other artists in the area.

As you can see throughout her musical career, Michelle has taken the stage in front of audiences of thousands, and then more intimate settings. The vocalist says that it doesn’t matter the size of the audience as long as one person connects with the music. Two of her most memorable performances took place at the Historic State Theatre and  Kennedy Center. Other venues include The University of Maryland, cathedrals up and down the east coast, churches, retreats, festivals, parties, and bars all across the tri-state area.

While taking a short break from performing, Michelle began teaching piano and voice at a local music school and also out of her home. She found joy in helping her students develop as vocalists and pianists. She watched as they grew musically and found their voices and styles; facilitating that was such a blessing.

The experiences of her life have prompted her thoughts to flow to pen and paper. She hopes that the music she composes will help heal the hearts of those who listen.

Michelle Ann released her first single, “Purpose,” in December 2017, which was a collaboration with Don Halterman of The Label Grander Music. Purpose delivered a message for the Christmas season and all proceeds from the single were donated to Bethany Christian Services, the adoption agency that brought Michelle and her family together. It was so meaningful to her to give back to that agency.

In 2019 she felt called to compose Sing Above as her first original piece from top to bottom. This song is about diagnosis and she wrote it in a way anyone can relate to, no matter the fight they are facing.  She knows how important music has been throughout her whole life, especially in the dark times, and wanted to write this song to pour her heart out to and to create awareness of Chronic illness and to help people feel less alone. Michelle hopes to connect with others through her lyrics, music, and performance. She got to perform it for the first time live at the historic State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia and it was a moment she will never forget. She was a featured artist for Grander Music but was also always an independent artist as well (owned all her own music and products herself) She has since decided to move on from Grander and be an independent artist only. She runs the entire business herself from top to bottom, so thank you for supporting her small business in any way! Since writing Sing Above, she lost her ability to sing due to paralysis in diaphragm and esophagus. It was heart breaking. It came back in the last year and half and she's beyond thankful. In fact it just so happened the first time she sang publicly since losing her ability was opening for Singer-songwriter & American Idol Winner, Lee DeWyze!

She believes that God gave her the gift and love of music and that this gift is part of His plan and her purpose. She has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know people from all over the world that have heard and been moved by her music, and she is so grateful to be able to connect with people across the globe through her music. She will always write authentically from her soul to connect with others wherever they are. Drop her a line, she would love to hear from you!
